Contest announces motor boat: Contest 52MC

For the first time in its 50-plus years of success, Contest Yachts is to build a motoryacht. The Contest 52MC was designed by the leading Dutch yard in cooperation with Georg Nissen. Engineering is by Vripack and the interior from the boards of Wetzels Brown Partners. The synthesis of these renowned names and Contest’s rich experience will ensure an impressive introduction to the seagoing motoryacht segment.

Not just for former sailors
Contest Yachts is renowned around the world for its top quality sailyachts, and has been meeting the wishes of sailing enthusiasts for more than half a century. In response to many requests to apply its knowledge to the motoryacht sector, the yard has now created a design that will appeal to former sailyacht owners and committed motoryacht fans alike. The starting points for the development were Contest Yacht’s core values of quality, comfort, performance and design.

Silence and style
Both the renowned finish of the interior and the vacuum injected composite hull and superstructure exude quality. The benefits of this construction method for a motoryacht are clear in terms of minimal weight and unparalleled strength. Moreover, Contest has its own unique vision when it comes to comfort onboard motoryachts. With a client base that is not used to the constant sound of engines, the yard is investing a great deal in the insulation of the engine room and vibration attenuation. Standard equipped with two extremely quiet and efficient Cummins Common Rail engines, with an option to be synchronised with the bow and stern thrusters via an Integrated Docking® system, the Contest 52MC will be easy to manoeuvre in all circumstances. For even quieter and greener sailing, a hybrid model of the motoryacht will be available with two electric motors that offer silent propulsion up to seven knots.

 Optimal stability
The hull of the modern halfglider has a sleek and speedy look, while the straight bow and long waterline ensure the sailing qualities that Contest required. The long waterline and straight bow combined with the wide and heavily accentuated underwater body will ensure an optimal performance. Research has shown that the hull shape minimises vertical movements and rolling while maximising the yacht’s stability. Should owners wish to further enhance stability, the option is available to build in a Seakeeper gyrostabilizer and reduce any remaining roll to a negligible level.

CE-A certified
The Contest 52MC is CE-A certified and meets all the requirements for long journeys on inland waterways, coastal areas and the open seas. The design is also focused on safety and comfort with wide side decks, high bulwarks and a closable cockpit that provides a permanent sense of safety. The spacious aft deck is connected directly to the saloon to enhance the inside/out feeling. Another major point of attention was the level of ergonomics on board, hence the absence of steep stairs and continuous comfort at sea.

Recognisable Contest look
The Wetzels Brown designed interior is characterised by peaceful, modern lines. In addition, the 52MC includes typical Contest design features such as eye-catching windows, a spacious and open deck, plenty of headroom throughout the yacht, and a finish to match the name and reputation of Contest Yachts.

The Contest 52MC is available in several models. For the ultimate outdoor feeling, the standard design can be expanded with raised steering or a flybridge. The range will also include a fully open sports model, and there will be numerous interior options available.

Contest Yachts has started the construction of the first Contest 52MC, which will be delivered to its owner in mid-2012.
