Contest wins major sail award

Contest 42CS triumphs at European Yacht of the Year awards

Contest Yachts in the Netherlands has won a prestigious European Yacht of the Year award at the Boot Dusseldorf show. The Contest 42CS triumphed in the Luxury Cruiser category and the yard’s first ever motoryacht, the Contest 52MC, was also one of the runners-up in the European Power Boat of the Year awards.

The Contest 42CS is a new semi-series concept that appeals to a wide range of potential owners. Experienced sailing families with children and adventurous couples seeking performance and superior comfort all feel at home on a yacht with an extraordinary amount of interior space and light for her size. Two Contest 42CS models have already been launched and two more have been ordered.

Created in response to growing demands for a Contest of around 12 metres in length, the Contest 42CS is available in three exterior layout options. The Shorthanded version has a central winch in the cockpit next to the steering wheel from which the mainsail can be operated. Option two is a spacious Cruising layout, with the mainsail traveller located on the cabin roof and the mainsail lines running via a German Mainsheet system to winches in the cockpit. Thirdly, the Performance version has the mainsail traveller recessed in the cockpit floor in front of the helm, maximising speed potential thanks to the optimal mainsail trim.

A wide range of interior options are also on offer with three layouts for the aft and foredeck areas and five for the amidships section of the boat. Key choices include whether to fit four or six sleeping berths, where to locate the galley on the port or starboard side, the size of the owner’s cabin and the amount of storage set aside for sails and the like. This remarkable flexibility, coupled with the unrivalled vacuum technology construction and finely detailed finish for which Contest is renowned, make the Contest 42CS a very special yacht indeed.
